Regain Control: Tackling Male Urinary Issues

Urinary incontinence in men isn't just a medical issue; it's a matter that deeply affects everyday life. Imagine this: you've just left the bathroom, but you feel like you need to go again. Or, you're suddenly caught off guard by an urgent need to urinate, with no bathroom in sight. For 13% of Australian men, and 30% of those over 70, this is their reality.

Do You Suffer From:

Post-micturition incontinence, or after-dribble, arises when urethral muscles fail to contract correctly, preventing complete bladder emptying. Often linked to an enlarged prostate or weakened pelvic floor muscles.

Post micturition incontinence

Bladder weakness, including straining or pushing to urinate and a weakened urinary stream, is a common issue for men with prostate problems. These symptoms, along with increased frequency and urgency to urinate, are particularly prevalent following prostate surgery.

Prostate problems

Pelvic floor muscles support your bladder and bowel. It is important to keep your pelvic floor muscles strong. When the pelvic floor muscles are strong they help prevent the leaking of urine and faeces. The pelvic floor muscles also help with sexual sensation and function.

Stress incontinence

Stress incontinence occurs when physical activities like exercising, coughing, jumping, or laughing put pressure on weak pelvic floor muscles. This weakness leads to a loss of bladder control during these actions. In such cases, the pelvic floor muscles are no longer strong enough to properly support the pelvic organs, making it difficult to maintain control under stress.

Overflow incontinence

This incontinence type involves continuous urine dribbling, rather than a sudden release. It often occurs when the bladder can't fully empty, common in chronic conditions like multiple sclerosis, stroke, or diabetes, and in men with an enlarged prostate blocking urine flow.

Urge incontinence

Urge incontinence is marked by a sudden, intense need to urinate, often leading to urine loss before reaching a toilet. This type of incontinence happens so quickly that it doesn't allow time to respond to the urgent sensation.

Overactive bladder

Overactive bladder leads to frequent, urgent urination, disrupting day and night routines. Causes include weakened bladder muscles, nerve damage, certain medications, alcohol or caffeine intake, infections, and being overweight.

This unique technology revolutionises sexual health and wellness by providing those suffering from incontinence with a completely non-invasive and effective option for management of symptoms.

The TelsaChair is used to treat various types of urinary incontinence, including:

  1. Stress incontinence

    1. This muscle weakness means you are more likely to lose control of your bladder while you are exercising, coughing, jumping, laughing, or doing any activities that put stress on the pelvic floor muscles

    2. In this type of incontinence, your pelvic floor muscles are weak and no longer support your pelvic organs as they should.

  2. Urge urinary incontinence

  3. Stress urinary incontinence

  4. Mixed urinary incontinence

  5. Incontinence after radical prostatectomy

  6. Regeneration after childbirth

It's a non-invasive solution that helps strengthen pelvic floor muscles, which can be beneficial for all these types of urinary incontinence.

Our proven 6 session TELSAChair incontinence treatment strategy

Pelvic Floor Assessment + First TELSAChair Session

Every incontinence treatment journey begins with a comprehensive pelvic floor assessment. This assessment encompasses a blend of medical history evaluation, physical examination, and sometimes, specialised tests. The aim is to pinpoint the type and cause of incontinence, thereby tailoring the most suitable TESLAChair treatment plan for you.

First TESLAChair Session

Following your pelvic floor assessment, we initiate your sessions on the TESLAChair. This preliminary session to ensure your safety and compatibility with the treatment plan.

Commencement of the Incontinence Treatment Plan

We recommend starting with 3 sessions per week over the initial 2 weeks. While this frequency might not align with everyone's availability, it's the regimen we've identified as the most effective for achieving optimal results with our treatment plan. The specifics of session frequency and scheduling will be discussed during your first consultation. Each session lasts just 30 minutes, and you'll remain fully clothed throughout.

Completion of the Incontinence Treatment

Your journey culminates with a final pelvic floor assessment conducted by Jess, ensuring a full evaluation of your treatment progress.

Hear from our patients

It was more than a treatment; it was a pathway back to embracing life fully with my children, without the shadow of incontinence hanging over me.

Life with two toddlers is a joyous whirlwind, but after my second child, I began experiencing urinary incontinence. It was affecting my daily life and causing anxiety. I heard about the TESLAChair and decided to give it a try.

Sitting in the TESLAChair, I felt a gentle tingling sensation as the magnetic pulses stimulated my pelvic floor muscles. Over several weeks, I noticed a significant difference. The involuntary leakage that had been plaguing me started to diminish.

By my final follow-up appointment, the results were remarkable. I could enjoy life without the constant worry about urinary incontinence. The TESLAChair gave me back control and confidence. It was more than a treatment; it was a pathway back to embracing life fully with my children, without the shadow of incontinence hanging over me.

What To Expect

We understand that seeking help for urinary incontinence and considering treatments like the TESLAChair can feel a bit overwhelming. Please know that we regularly assist individuals with personal health concerns and are acutely aware of any discomfort you may experience. You won't need to disclose any specifics about your condition to reception or other staff unless you're comfortable doing so. Your TESLAchair appointment will take place in a private room, ensuring your privacy. Upholding your confidentiality and creating a safe, respectful environment is our utmost priority.

TeslaChair Operation:

The TeslaChair operates on the principle of FMS. It generates a magnetic field that can penetrate the body without causing discomfort or pain. When this magnetic field changes rapidly, as it does in the TeslaChair, it induces electrical currents within the body. These currents can stimulate nerve cells and cause muscle contractions, specifically in the pelvic floor muscles that are crucial for urinary control.

TELSAChair Session

You sit on the TESLAChair fully clothed. The chair is designed to be comfortable and the process is non-invasive, which means it doesn't require any probes or attachments to the body.

Kegals but without the effort

During a treatment session, the TESLAChair generates a series of magnetic pulses. These pulses stimulate the pelvic floor muscles, causing them to contract and relax. This is similar to doing pelvic floor exercises or "Kegels," but the contractions are induced by the magnetic field rather than the person's own effort

Duration and Frequency of Treatment

Treatment sessions typically last around 30 minutes and are usually done once a week for 6 weeks or twice a week for several weeks. The exact duration and frequency can vary depending on the specific recommendations of our specialist physiotherapist.

What problems will the TheTESLAChair™ treat?

• Urge urinary incontinence

• Stress urinary incontinence

• Mixed urinary incontinence

• Incontinence after radical prostatectomy

• Faecal incontinence

• Rehabilitation after pelvic floor surgery

• Chronic prostate inflammation

FMS is a new technique for the conservative treatment of urinary incontinence (UI), based on magnetic induction. It induces controlled depolarization of the nerves, resulting in pelvic muscle contraction and sacral S2-S4 roots neuromodulation.

1

The study assessed the efficacy of a new 3 Tesla FMS chair in patients with stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and women with overactive bladder (OAB) symptoms.

2

At 2 months follow-up, 47% of patients with SUI symptoms and 50% of patients with OAB symptoms declared themselves cured.

3

Considering cured and improved patients, the subjective cure rates were 68.3% for patients with SUI and 70% for patients with OAB symptoms

4

The FMS treatment was administered for 20 minutes per session, twice per week for a total of 8 weeks.

5

The 3 Tesla FMS chair was found to be an effective and safe procedure in patients who complain of both SUI and OAB symptoms.

6

The higher cure and improvement rate found in these patients could be related to higher magnetic power than previous devices analysed in the literature.

7

The treatment is painless, and the patients were seated comfortably on the chair fully clothed. This characteristic represents an advantage, especially for the elderly population.

What are the causes, symptoms, and management options for urinary incontinence in men, particularly related to prostate issues

Urinary incontinence in men varies from minor dribbling post-urination to a constant sensation of a full bladder. Commonly linked to prostate issues, it affects 13% of Australian men and 30% over 70. Symptoms include urgency and frequent urination. Understanding male incontinence, its types - stress and urge incontinence being prominent - and causes, like urethral damage or nerve issues, is crucial. Post-prostate surgery incontinence is frequent but often temporary. Early detection and treatment of prostate problems are vital. While distressing, incontinence can usually be managed or cured, maintaining a normal lifestyle.
